Chinati Mountain Photo Expedition - SOLD OUT

Image of Chinati Mountain Photo Expedition - SOLD OUT

BOOKING NOW - Join me for this photo expedition and enjoy a classroom that is of a different sort. During the weekend we will spend our time afield taking photos so put on some comfortable hiking boots and get ready to explore the Chinati mountains and surrounding areas at Cibolo Creek Ranch and Resort.

Cibolo Creek Ranch offers one a full understanding of what the quintessential Texas experience is. There are three main creeks on this ranch, Cibolo, Cienega, and Morita; and are fed by strong, stable springs of the same names. The availability of good, constant water led Milton Faver, the ranch’s founder, to build adobe forts at each of the three springs in the 1850’s.

Cibolo Creek Ranch covers more than 30,000 acres in the Chinati and Cienega Mountains of the Big Bend in West Texas and is ecologically situated in the Chihuahuan Desert. With good water and good forage, wildlife abounds on the ranch. There are fabulous populations of mule deer, white-tailed deer, elk, buffalo, aoudad, javelinas, quail and turkeys. Over 500 species of birds have been sighted in the area.

If the diverse flora and fauna are not enough, the undulating landscapes plus colorful sunrises and sunsets make for a photographic odyssey.

Sept. 27-29, 2019 (SOLD OUT)

ONLY 14 slots available for participants for each expedition, so get your reservations made as soon as possible. Because of the remote location of this expedition and the possibility of schedule changes due to light and weather, staying at Cibolo Creek Ranch Lodge is required. Participants will receive a more in-depth itinerary upon check in at Cibolo Creek. To reserve your room call 432-229-3737.

Things to bring:
-Rain gear for some possible afternoon showers
-Cable release
-Sturdy tripod-A MUST HAVE
- Lenses: Wide angle such as 18-55 for the cameras with non full frame sensors and a minimum of 24mm for full frame cameras. Also a medium telephoto such as 70-200 or in that range, depending on what brand of camera you tote.
-The ranch has adult beverages for purchase, but if you like you can bring some of your own and keep them in your room. (Room fridges not provided unless requested)
-There isn't much hiking, but a good pair of hiking boots is a positive in the rocky terrain.
-If the country has been receiving some rain, there should be chances for some macro shooting, thus if you have trouble kneeling down on rough terrain, a light stool or knee pads would be helpful.

For those joining the group but not the photographers excursions, there are several activities to keep you occupied while your shutterbug is out capturing some awesome images. Available activities at the resort include a shooting range, guided tours, swimming and sauna area, fishing, and if you book a week in advance you can enjoy a relaxing massage.
